Kim Dongwan from Korea

I came to Abbotsford in 2016 from South Korea. I went to Gordie Howe Middle School in
grade seven, and I am currently a grade twelve student in W.J. Mouat Secondary School.
These past five years were amazing experiences for me. I met many trustworthy, fun, and
extraordinary people, and experienced numerous events that made me who I am right now.
Without them, I cannot even imagine what type of person I would be at the moment in an
alternate universe. The diverse culture in Canada is mainly what made me have a better
experience here. Meeting many people all from different backgrounds made me feel rather
calm and relaxed. To think that they all had their own personal stories and reason in coming
here made me feel that I am not the only one who is new here in Canada. Not only that, I
also got to improve my socializing skills by interacting with people with different culture and
ethnicities. Overall, living in a country that contains this much diverse culture made me
merge in and grow more. The learning environment here in Canada was also great. The
teachers and many different choice of classes really provided me with a lot of opportunities
to grow. To start with, the teachers here in Canada are very generous. I personally think that
teachers, who have taught many different students with different culture makes them more
experienced themselves, making them more of an expert in teaching various types of
students. Different choices of classes were also a merit. Students who are interested in arts
can take art classes, and students who are going into sciences can take many different
science classes in specific. These opportunities for students come as a great advantage,
because it can develop different student's dreams, identities and what they want to become
by taking and experiencing all these different types of classes themselves. Overall, I believe
that Abbotsford School District has provided me with many outstanding strategies and
opportunities for the future.

Post-Secondary Plans

I have applied to two post secondaries: BCIT and UBC. I am currently planning to attend
BCIT in September. I applied for Computer Systems Technology Diploma, which is mainly
about software development and computer software engineering. The main reason why I
decided to apply for such program is for my future plan to pursue a career as a video game
developer. I wanted to become a video game developer as long as I could remember. I
worked very hard to achieve this dream, and graduating from BCIT would be a big step
towards doing so. During my campus life in BCIT, I will attend the co-op program, and build
more career for my future resume. If I happen to like the workplace I am put in, I might work
there for a while to earn more money for bigger future plans to become a game designer.
