Program and Homestay Fees

All prices are in Canadian funds. 

Please note that due to changing Government Policy some price changes are beyond our control.   We will do our best to give as much notice as possible of any changes.

 *Program Fee: Includes Tuition, Medical Insurance and Textbooks

** Homestay Fee: Covers monthly fees + 10 days @$35/night for orientation period.  Any unused amount during this period will be refunded to the student at the end of October or March, see details in Homestay Payment Service explanation below.  

Students in the District Homestay will be charged for a full month of homestay fee for the month they are arriving and / or leaving the program, including students returning in September semester.  The only partial month adjustments will be made for the orientation period in August or January.  (Effective date: July 1, 2018)

Please note that from time to time our homestay program is not able to accommodate certain medical or dietary requests.  In such cases students may be able to find a suitable homestay with one of the private homestay companies that operate in our region.  Please check with companies to confirm pricing, which is different from ours.  For information about Private Homestay options click here

***Custodianship: At the discretion of Canadian Immigration Officers, the province of British Columbia requires minor children between ages of 17 and the age of majority (19) to have a notarized custodianship declaration signed by both legal parents (if applicable) and their Canadian custodian. The Abbotsford School District may act as the custodian for students in the District Homestay Program, upon request, free of charge.

**** Airport Pickup Fee: As of January 1 2023 Airport Pickup Service will increase to $200.   Fee will increase to $210 for January 1 2024  

Unaccompanied Minor Service - Students in our District Homestay Program who are travelling as Unaccompanied Minors will be charged an additional $100.  This amount covers the additional fee that the Airport Pick Up service charges us to receive UM students, and for the extra resources and staff required to coordinate airport arrival pickup.  Flight Details for Unaccompanied Minors must be communicated to our office at least 7 days prior to flying.

Deferral Fee - Students who are registered to attend may defer their studies to another semester / year for a fee of $200.  Please note that should any prices change students will be charged the full fees for the semester / year that they attend.

Report Card Validation Fee - The Governments in some countries require that report cards are validated through their Consular Services.  We charge a processing fee to help recover a portion of the costs incurred by our office for courier, legal and labour fees.  The fee varies from country to country, depending on the process.

Program Payment

The Abbotsford School District is happy to offer the payment flatform with GlobalPay through our secure agent and parent portal.  Moving forward, International Student Fees are encouraged to be paid using  the Abbotsford School District’s International payments platform via the secure link on the Statement of Account or on WU® GlobalPay for Students.  If your client makes the payment directly to the District, parents can make the payment through WU GlobalPay link above.  This fast and reliable service allows you to pay in your local currency using a range of local online payment options or bank transfer or by credit card.

Homestay Payment Service

The School District will handle students' monthly homestay payments on their behalf - we collect homestay fees at the start of the year, and make the monthly payments to the host families.  The Service Package requires that the total homestay fees, as indicated above, be paid in-full at the time of billing.  Please contact our office for alternate arrangements.

Itemized Fee Schedule for Homestay Payment Service 

2023/2024

Homestay Placement Fee - This fee is for placement and monitoring of the homestay and does not cover the first or last month rent: $450 Non-refundable
Academic Year -  (10 months at $1050 per month = $10,500) + $350* (10 nights @ $35.00 during orientation in August/January)  $10,850

Medical Insurance

Medical Insurance is included in the Abbotsford School District International Student Program Fees and is provided by StudyInsured insurance.  StudyInsured is one of the world’s largest insurance providers for international education. 

5 month / One Semester Students 

Medical Insurance coverage is provided by StudyInsured for the entire 5 months.

6 month (+) / Two Semester Students

International Students studying in BC School Districts for 6 months (or longer) are required to be covered by the Medical Services Plan of British Columbia.  MSP coverage typically begins three months after students arrive in BC.  Eligible students receive their BC Medical Services Card from their International Assistant once MSP coverage begins.  Medical Insurance coverage for the first three months is provided by StudyInsured, see details above.

End Dates for Medical, Homestay and Custodianship

For students completing their studies in June, the District will cease medical coverage, District arranged homestay and District Custodianship as of June 30.
For students completing their studies in January, the District will cease medical coverage, District arranged homestay and District Custodianship as of January 31.

Additional Child Discount

If more than one member of a family wants to study in Abbotsford, any additional children are eligible for a discount. The first student is charged the full tuition amount, any additional siblings receive a $500 discount for the academic year, or $250 for a semester.

Refund Policy

Standard Refund Policy

In the event that a student does not come to Canada or decides not to attend or to leave Abbotsford School District’s International Program, the following terms will apply:
       a. The application fee is non‐refundable in any circumstances.
       b. All refunds are subject to a refund processing fee.
       c. For students in their first year of participation in the International Programs, the following will apply:

                  i. the full program fee, less the application fee and the refund processing fee, will be refunded upon receipt of satisfactory evidence that the Study Permit was not approved by Immigration, Refugees, Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Request for refund must include a letter of rejection from IRCC;
                 ii. two‐thirds (2/3) of the program fee, less the application fee and the refund processing fee, will be refunded if the student withdraws prior to commencement of the program (the ‘program’ is defined as the dates specified on the official Letter of Acceptance and the ‘program’ can be within the same school year or over two consecutive school years);
               iii. one half (1/2) of the program fee, less the application fee and the refund processing fee, will be refunded if the student withdraws within the first calendar month of  commencing the program (the ‘program’ is defined as the dates specified on the official Letter of Acceptance and the ‘program’ can be within the same school year or over two consecutive school years); and
               iv. no refund will be granted, for any reason, if the student withdraws after the first calendar month of commencing the program.

     d. If a student indicates they will be returning to Abbotsford School District’s International Program for a second or subsequent semester or year, the following will apply:

              i. two‐thirds (2/3) of the program fee of renewal/extension, less the extension fee (if applicable) and the refund processing fee, will be refunded if the student withdraws prior to commencement of the second or subsequent semester or year of studies;
             ii. one half (1/2) of the program fee of renewal/extension, less the extension fee (if applicable) and the refund processing fee, will be refunded if the student withdraws within the first calendar month of commencing the second or subsequent semester or year of studies;
            iii. no refund will be granted, for any reason, if the student withdraws after the first calendar month of commencing the second or subsequent semester or year of studies.

      e. No refund will be provided if a student is dismissed from the program because of a violation of this Agreement.
      f. No refund will be provided if the Abbotsford School District is unable to provide education due to any causes beyond its control.
      g. In certain circumstances an international fee‐paying student may become eligible to become a non‐fee paying student upon their parent or guardian becoming ordinarily resident in British Columbia. A student may only change their status from fee‐paying to non‐fee paying before September 30 of the applicable school year. No refund of program fee will be provided to any student whose status changes after September 30th of the applicable school year.
