Outdoor Education

Experience great Canadian adventure activities alongside Canadian (and International!) students with the Outdoor Education Program!  

Many students say this is the BEST part of their Canadian experience!

International students at ANY Abbotsford School District High School can participate in exciting activities of their choice after school and on the weekends with the Community Recreation Extreme Program .  Students receive information about how to participate during orientation week.  All events are organized and supervised by Abbotsford School District staff.

Sample Calendar (based on 2017/2018 activities, subject to change)

  • Sep 18                Mt Biking on nearby Vedder Mountain
  • Sep 21                Hiking the Othello Tunnels - see BC's railway history
  • Sep 29-30           Skills Night - students learn the basics of hiking and camping
  • Oct 13-15           Hike and camp on the Tusk - one of BC's famous peaks
  • Oct 26-27           Whitewater River rafting or kayaking - on nearby Chilliwack river
  • November 21      Paintball - lots of fun and adrenaline as teams compete
  • November 23      Paintball
  • November 29      Indoor Rock Climbing - learn the ropes at our local climbing gym
  • Dec 8+9              Hike and camp at Lindeman Lake - world class scenery close to Abbotsford
  • Feb 16                 Ski/Snowboard at Sasquatch Mountain - just 45 mins from Abbotsford
  • Feb  22                Ski/Snowboard at Sasquatch Mountain
  • March 2               Ski/Snowboard at Sasquatch Mountain.
  • Mar 9-11              Two Night Ski/Snowboard trip at Sasquatch Mountain
  • April 6+7              Skills Night - students learn the basics of hiking and camping

  • Apr 26-29            Hike and Camp the Stein Valley - A classic BC adventure
  • May 7, 14, 28, Jun 4    Rock Climbing at nearby Hatzic Rock - great routes close to Abbotsford

  • June 8                 Lindeman Lake Hike and Swim - cool off in the lake after a beautiful hike in

There are minimal extra costs for events - several are free.  Costs as kept as low as possible so that as many students as possible can participate.  Students can select as many or as few activities as they want.

Looking for more of a challenge?

At WJ Mouat Secondary International Students can participate in individual activities, or they can register in the Commrec Extreme course for course credit.  Students must complete a minimum number of activities and assignments to pass the course.

At Robert Bateman Secondary International Students can register for the full  Outdoor Recreation Program  for course credit.  Watch their adventures video
