IB Middle Years Programme (MYP)

Available for students in grades 6-8 at Abbotsford Middle School.  This programme encourages the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement, qualities that are essential for life in the 21st century.

Pre-IB Programme preparation at Abbotsford Secondary

To assist Students in grades 9 and 10 transition to the academic demands of the IB Diploma Programme, Abbotsford Senior Secondary School offers Pre-Diploma 9 and 10 courses in English, French, Social Studies, Mathematics and Science.  Emphasis is placed on higher level skills including analysis, research, writing, problem-solving, and working in cooperative groups.  Curriculum and evaluation are modelled on IB course requirements.

The 2 year IB Diploma Programme is offered in grades 11 and 12 at Abbotsford Secondary, a fully accredited IB World School.  The  IB Diploma prepares students for university, and is recognized internationally.

Students who are interested in applying to the IB Diploma program must

1. Contact our office to inform us of their interest.  We will work with the IB Department to coordinate the application process
2. Complete and submit the IB Application Form to the International Program Office, NOT to Abbotsford Secondary School.  You can upload it with the International Program application, or you can email it to international@abbyschools.ca.
3. Complete a writing sample assignment
4. Subject to the results of the writing sample and application, conduct an in person or skype interview with the Director of IB at Abbotsford Secondary.

As an alternative to studying the full IB Diploma, some students choose to take only a few IB subjects and complete the standard BC graduation requirements and post-secondary requirements.  

Costs:  $150/class to a maximum of $450, paid at the beginning of the first semester.
