Before I came to Canada, I was sick and tired of the Korean school system. I was overwhelming about endless exams without any teachers’ support. That was actually one of the reasons why I came to Canada. I needed some kind of new experiences with new environment. Right after I started my school life in Abbotsford community, it was actually as hard as school life in Korea. But I didn’t feel overwhelming. Teachers and community were there to support me and all of my friends were there to help me out. To return those help for them, I studied harder and spent more hours on it. Through their support and some of my efforts, I was able to show great academic performance. I'm getting A for an average grade of all academic subjects. Like I mentioned on question 9, I tried to support Abbotsford community as well as my original community through joining various clubs and volunteering. I participated in UFV mathematics contest. I got invited to UFV for the final contest. But, unfortunately, due to bereavement from Korea, I couldn't attend the final contest. I got Honour Roll every semester so far since I came to Canada. I got certificates of effort and certificates of Top student on chemistry and IB math. And these successful academic performances even leads to student of month for March at school. Thanks to all those supports from this community, I was able to know the good feeling of being successful. Out of gratitude, I actually started math tutoring club at our school. Although it must be a small start to reciprocate for, I want to keep sharing my knowledge and happiness further. 

Post-secondary plans

I applied to the University of Waterloo in honours mathematics, mathematics-chartered professional accountancy and physical science.  I'm planning to do a double major in math and physical science. For math, I want to do a major in mathematics teaching and become a teacher in high school. I want to be a great math teacher like my favourite math teacher and make math as a fun and interesting subject for students. For physical science, I want to do a major in medicinal chemistry and develop new medicines so that I can help sick people to get their medicines at a cheaper price. Ultimately, I want to live a life that I can share my happiness and give people back all those supports and helps that I’ve got.
